The Worcester Public Library has a variety of special events and programs planned for school vacation week at the Main Library from Tuesday, April 19 to Saturday, April 23.

In addition to some of the regularly scheduled programs, including games, reading to service animals, and Legos, the Youth Services Librarians will host special performances and programs by special guests and children’s entertainers. There is a spring theme for the week as well, with an emphasis on being environmentally conscious.

On Tuesday, April 19 the fun starts with Flower Power at 11 a.m. During this program, children will learn about planting and caring for plants, and have the opportunity to plant their own marigolds.

On Wednesday, April 20 at 11 a.m. children can visit the library for Trash into Treasure, where they can learn all about recycling and reusing by turning the library’s trash into treasure! They will be able to recycle used materials into something creative and new. Also, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. the Latino Education Institute will be at the library to present Reading is Power. This program will take children on a reading journey to uncover why reading is important through Latin American stories, storytelling and story listening techniques.

The fun continues on Thursday, April 21 with Kites! at 11 a.m. Kites will be provided, and patrons will be able to use markers to decorate their own. Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to design their own kite to take home. Younger children are welcome to attend with a caregiver. Be sure to stick around for a very special event, A Literacy FUN Magic Show with Pete & Chris at 2 p.m. This amazing show is full of fun and entertainment from brothers Pete & Chris, who have been entertaining for more than 15 years. This extra special event is sponsored by the Friends of the Worcester Public Library.

The April Showers Party kicks off at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 22. Who says April has to be dreary? Come dressed in your raincoats and galoshes and make rainbow crafts at the library! Later that day at 2 p.m. you are invited to Celebrate the Earth with a fun craft from the City of Worcester’s Department of Public Works & Parks. Come celebrate Earth Day and learn about recycling and how to help the environment.
